Canvas Madrid despierta. The Paseo de Recoletos is a wide boulevard about 600 meters long. It starts at Plaza Cibeles and ends at Plaza de Colón. During its tour, you can see nineteenth century palaces, museums, gardens or cafes.
The name of Recoletos is due to the convent of the Augustinian Recollects Order, built on the same place that currently occupied the National Library and the of the Marques de Salamanca Palace. From the nineteenth century, Paseo Recoletos was transformed into a luxury area of Madrid.
In this boulevard we can find: The House of America, the National Library, the Linares Palace, the Archaeological Museum and the Plaza de Colón, where it ends.
With respect to historic cafes, we find the Café del Espejo and Café Gijón, a place of literary gatherings during the twentieth century that still today it is a meeting point for some writers.
